Bill,
Have you tried urethane belts for a Vandegraaff generator? I've been
building a piece of factory automation with such a belt running on delrin
rollers. It creates an uncomfortable amount of static if you act as the comb.

The belts are available spliced to order in various thicknesses and widths
relatively inexpensively from Pyramid, Inc., Newton, IA 515.792.2405

I enjoyed your page on VDG's, the shocks got me thinking about a generator
(a Gilbert kit I think) I received for Christmas around 1963.
