Re: Some more MAC questions: Using PC software on Macs

I have used Soft Windows on my old Mac at home (Performa 475) along with PC
Anywhere so that my wife could dial in to her office system and work at home. A
fellow faculty member used it with his Centris 610 to connect into the
College's LAN and access the mainframe. Never had any troubles in either case.
The only thing that got me stuck at home was a very small amount of RAM (4 Mb)
and a very small HD (100 mB) which limited performance - something you
shouldn't have to worry about with your G3.

Bob Carlson's questions about transferring Visual Basic programs to
a Mac reminded me to ask about using PC software in general on Macs. I'm
moving to Wabash College this summer where I'll be set up with a new G3
PowerMac. There are some programs that only run on PCs, but I would also
like to use them on the Mac. Since the lab computers are Macs and most of
the people I work with use Macs, I will be sticking with them, at least
for the next 3 years, but I still want the option to use PC software. I
see several possibilities: (1) get a cheap Pentium to run the IBM
software and use the G3 as my primary machine; (2) have a PC board put in
my PowerMac (my new colleague at Wabash has done this and likes it very
much) and have 2 machines in 1; (3) use PC emulation software like Soft
Windows.
Option (1) is straightforward. I'm interested in hearing about
anyone's experiences with (2) and (3).
Thanks!
