I agree with David on this one. To me, it is similar to taking the guided
tour when first vacationing in a new area or new country to hit the
highlights and to get a feeling for what one would like to see or do in more
detail. One _real_ danger with the 'let's concentrate on one or two key
topics' type of course is that if the chosen topic doesn't really catch the
fancy of the students, the course can be a disaster regardless of the
pedagogical 'superiority' or the structure.
