RC discharge behavior

Can the infinite lifetime prediction of this classical model, 
contrasted with the observed finite lifetime, be used to 
"discover" charge quantization -  in the same way that the 
ultraviolet catastrophe was used to "discover" radiation 
quantization? Is this a discovery of the electron?
