Subject: "Greenhouse" effect. Was: light is slowing down

... Conclusion: It is the suppressed convection which is responsible
for the temperature within greenhouses. Indeed, many greenhouses today
use plastic coverings.

Fraser's site, "Bad Science" has a discussion of greenhouse effect.

Are plastics more transparent to IR that glass? How much more?
I know that SiO2 is transparent up to about 3 microns while for the NaCl
the equivalent limit is over 10 microns. What is the cutoff limit for a
plastic lens, for example, or for common plexiglas?
