PHYSICS TEACHING OPENING beginning in the fall of 1998
BOSTON UNIVERSITY ACADEMY

Located on the campus of Boston University, Boston University Academy is an
accredited four-year high school for academically motivated students. Juniors
take two of five classes at Boston University, and seniors take all of their
classes at Boston University. Graduating with 48 college credits, Academy
students apply to college with advanced standing.

We are seeking highly motivated and qualified candidates for a physics
teaching position beginning in the fall of 1998. All Academy students take
physics in the 9th grade using the Hewitt Conceptual Physics text. The course
is laboratory-based and taught with an algebra I/trigonometry level of
mathematics. Academy students take chemistry in grade 10 and pre-med biology
at Boston University in grade 11. Seniors select from among the many science
courses open to University freshmen.

Academy instructors have use of all University facilities, including the
Science and Engineering Library and the Mugar Memorial Library (with 2
million printed volumes).University professors are frequently willing to
share both ideas and resources with Academy teachers.

Applicants for this position should have substantial high school physics
teaching experience and a demonstrated understanding of current trends in
physics education. An advanced degree is preferred. Salary is competitive and
commensurate with experience. Boston University offers a generous benefits
