I don't know how long Jim is willing to take to tell this story. I like Dan's
more empirical approach and I like to give a little more of the background.
Hubble's observations, the interpretation of the red shift as a doppler effect,
which also means telling about line spectra. Obviously, this can drag out into
a pretty long discussion, but because of the Hubble telescope nearly everyone
has heard the name, but very few laymen have a clue as to what Hubble did to
get his name stuck on the thing.
