I ran your numbers on a spreadsheet. While the 4 m/s and 6.5 m/s^2
agree well, the range comes out only 1.2 m. For 2.5 meters and R=.08*v
corresponds to v = 5.7m/s and a = 5.2 m/s^2.

The distance 2.5 meters was from the sensor to the level at which the
load attached to the balloon was hitting the floor. The balloon had to
be released well below the sensor. That is why having extra space
available would be desirable. Try the experiment with extra space and
share the results.

We will be happy to poste the complete table (t, d, v, a, R) when data
are no longer "quick and dirty". This was only a fast improvisation,
about one hour between the classes.
