Non-tenure related positions in teaching and physics education

Instructor/Research Associate in Physics Education Research
and Adjunct Instructor Positions for 1998-99
Department of Physics
University of Oregon

The Department of Physics at the University of Oregon anticipates several
part-time and full-time non-tenure related positions for 1998-99. One of
these will be a full-time Instructor/Research Associate with specialty in
physics education research beginning September, 1998. Initial appointments
will be for one year with the likelihood of continuation for a second year
in some cases. The teaching assignments will be at all levels in astronomy
and physics. The research will be in the development and testing of active
learning introductory curricular materials as part of several physics
education research grants.

Successful candidates will have a Ph.D. in physics, and experience teaching
physics and/or astronomy at the college/university level. For the Research
Associate position, experience with both the use of microcomputers in
physics instruction and the use of interactive, inquiry-based modes of
instruction is desirable. Applications from faculty going on sabbatical
leave are welcome. Send vita, the names, addresses and phone numbers of
three references and a cover letter describing relevant experiences in
detail to Prof. David R. Sokoloff, Department of Physics, University of
Oregon, Eugene, OR 97403. We will begin considering applications on
January 16, 1998 and continue until all positions are filled. The
University of Oregon is an EO/AA/ADA institution committed to cultural
diversity.
