Yes, indeed. The amazing thing is that even a spherical projectile, without
any rotation, will experience a lift. ....

Let me add a question.

John, did you try to invent a retarding force formula (nonlinear in any way
you wish) which would produce a lift equal to the weight? That would be
even more amazing (even if only one value of v satisfied --> Lift=m*g).

The opposing force does not have to be dissipative. The spherical magnet of
Gilbert can be visualized traveling in a vacuum along the axis of a horizontal
solenoid and charging a capacitor. Or some other convertor of kinetic energy.
All value of v (up to c) can be explored without rasing the temperature.
