Re: 1mev electron accelerator?

To sing from my usual song-sheet;
about 40 years ago, a faculty member named F. B. Lee at Erie County Tech
Institute, Buffalo described the pleasures of the amateur construction of a
0.25 Mev accelerator ( with a light metal target) for Stong's Book of
Projects for the Amateur Scientist. He specified a Van de Graaff generator.
You will find his vacuum pump arrangements and McLeod gauge construction
interesting.

Sincerely,
Brian

dear bill
I am a 4th year physics student at the university of sheffield and I am
presently researching for my design project in which I have to design or
propose a small electron accelerator(~1Mev) for the department mainly for
the use of year 1+2 students for simple experiments .My main restrictions
are that it should be about desk-size and should not be too
expensive.Which methods could I use and which are presently on the market
of the type that would be suitable for my needs?Which companies? How
should I go about doing it???

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
