Re: software for measurements from video images?

Ludwik has mentioned this inability to capture exact images of vertical
displacement with time using the equipment at his disposal several times.
We have disposed of one or two small error sources already.

But I would like to propose that this is a very significant experimental
opportunity. I acknowledge that the source of the variability is likely in
an engineered system rather than a natural phenomenon. All the same, an
investigation of the components of the error bar would be of great
educational value, it seems to me.

He might consider reshooting a video drop, while illuminating it with a
strobe of known period, or he might use a timer display in the field of
view which shows millisecond intervals...
He might choose a smaller object ( a ball-bearing?) with frontal
illumination for better spatial resolution of the image. The possibilities
are fascinating...

The goal of my activity was to show that the acceleration of free fall
does not depend on speed, for example. Fluctuations of the order of 50%
and more (big error bars) defeat the purpose. The sutter speed was 1/1000.
