should clarify this. The difficult part of this is finding a variety of
appropriate items to represent each of the eleven or twelve labs done
during the semester. So it's not that any one item is particularly
outstanding; just that it's hard to come up with another one from the
same lab that is substantially different (i.e., not just the same thing
with different numbers). I'm afraid that the lab exam, as I use it,
does not evaluate mastery of experimental viewpoints and techniques, but
serves a "motivational' device that encourages students to take the lab
exercises seriously and do their work carefully and completely.
