Alex,
I use them all the time to check the accuracy of our digital
voltmeters, and another faculty member uses them in a potentiometer
laboratory exercise. I was kidding him the other day that it is a bit
outmoted, even though it is a conceptually neat instrument.
Although the Josephson's junction has replaced them as the standard,
they are still far easier to use.
