RE: "strangeness" quote

My science quote file has this:

My suspicion is that the universe is not only queerer than we
suppose, but queerer than we _can_ suppose.

- John Burden Sanderson Haldane (1892-1964) English
geneticist.

It's highly likely that this idea was bouncing around at the time, and can
be attributed to a number of famous folks who repeated it. The not-so
famous folks who repeat these things never get any notice.

One of these days I must get the entire file up on my web page.

The actual quotation:

"The universe is not only queerer than we imagine, it is queerer than we can
imagine."
(always good for an adolescent classroom snicker)

and I believe it is Arthur Stanley Eddington.

Can someone please tell me the exact wording and
source of a quotation that was something like:

The Universe is not only stranger than we had
imagined. It is even stranger than we can imagine.

Many thanks,
