re: global warming (Al Bartlett's letter)

Here's an example of an e-mail that can be sent to Carol Browner, the EPA
administrator.

To: browner.carol@epamail.epa.gov
Cc:

Dear Secretary Browner,

When you meet next week with the world's environmental ministers, I hope
that you will take a strong leadership position in advocating
the adoption of real programs to reduce the global emissions of the
greenhouse gases that are believed to be the cause of global warming.

The scientific concensus is that there is a very high probability that
global warming is with us now. Rather than get into any debate with the
dissenters, I hope that you will stress the following:

WE ARE ENGAGED IN A GIANT GLOBAL EXPERIMENT WHOSE OUTCOME IS NOT KNOWN.
IN SUCH A SITUATION, THE ONLY PRUDENT PATH IS THE CONSERVATIVE ONE OF NOT
TAKING CHANCES WITH THE FUTURE OF OUR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN. IN
CONSTRAST, THE LIBERAL POINT OF VIEW SEEMS TO BE THAT IF WARMING IS NOT
ABSOLUTELY PROVEN, THEN WE SHOULD GO ON INCREASING THE ANNUAL EMISSIONS OF
GREENHOUSE GASES.

PLEASE TAKE THE CONSERVATIVE POINT OF VIEW as suggested above.

With best wishes, I am,

Sincerely yours,

Albert A. Bartlett
