Re: Neutron mass

A bare neutron (i.e. one outside a nucleus) will decay into a
proton plus an electron plus neutrino. Knowing the rest masses of the
proton and electron, and measuring the endpoint of the beta spectrum you
can determine the mass of the neutron.

It has been a long time since nuclear but I seem to recall being able
to do this with a neutron interferometer as well. Tilt it at an angle
and the interference pattern experiences a gravitationally induced
phase shift which depends on the square of the mass.
