As someone who is totally confused by the GR explanation for all this, my
only question is to the nature of the accelerometer that will read 9.8
m/s^2 upwards when firmly attached to the tree! ;-)

O.K. I am, therefore, justified in understanding that the accelerometer
of the person handcuffed to the tree correctly indicates (as it *must*)
