Introductory Physics Using Interactive Teaching Methods and Computers



Please note that the deadline for applications from college, university and
high school teachers of physics for the Dickinson Summer Seminar: Teaching
Introductory Physics Using Interactive Teaching Methods and Computers is in
about two weeks. For those who are interested, a brief description
follows:

Dickinson College Summer Seminar: Teaching Introductory Physics Using
Interactive Teaching Methods and Computers
June 15-27, 1997 at Dickinson College, Carlisle, Pennsylvania

This two-week Summer Institute will focus on new teaching methods in
introductory physics based on research in physics education and cognition
which involve comprehensive use of Macintosh and MS Windows tools.

Participants in the program will receive 1) sample curricular materials
from the Workshop Physics, RealTime Physics, Tools for Scientific Thinking,
InteractiveLecture Demonstration andSpreadsheet Physics Programs, 2) free
tuition, 3) free room and board at Dickinson College and 4) continued
support by the instructors and other seminar participants. (NOTE: The
cost of travel to the seminar will be borne by participants or their
institutions.)

Instructors for the seminar will be Priscilla Laws, Dickinson College,
Ronald Thornton, Tufts University, David Sokoloff, University of Oregon,
Patrick Cooney, Millersville University, John Garrett, Sheldon High School
and Maxine Willis, Gettysburg High School.
