Re: string vibrators needed

Hello friends,
I have a few old but wonderful Sargent Welch string vibratirs for a wave
lab. They vibrated at only one frequency (120) but we could change the
tension in the string and produce different standing waves.
I need more of them but SW no longer carries them as the manufacturer has
quit business. Does anyone have a good model they could recommend?
Thank you for your help.

We use the Pasco Mech wave drivers SF-9324 @ $175/ea. They have another
model for $108. These aren't cheap but can be driven at a wide range of
frequencies by an ordinary function generator, and they can be used to
vibrate strings, springs, Chladni plates, etc.

In my string lab we leave the tension constant and do "string spectroscopy"
locating as many resonance frequencies as possible and plotting against the
number of anti-nodes. From this you can get the wave speed and compare
with the theoretical value, [tension/(mass/length)]^(.5).
