Motorcycle steering

About steering by leaning a motorcycle:

I have often noticed while riding my small Suzuki off-the-road bike,
that when I push the right handlebar forward, it wants to make me go to
the right.

Once I borrowed some one elses small motorcycle. While I thought I
completely unlocked the front wheel, I was unfamiliar with the lock and
in fact I reextended the locking pin as I withdrew the key. This time
the pin was to the center side of the "stop" that prevented the
handlebars from being turned while parked. The result of my inadvertent
locking was that the handle bars could only be turned to the right from
the center position, but could not be turned to the left at all.

What happened next was a surprise to me. I rode the motorcycle for
about three miles, down two step hills, made three 90 degree right turns
and two 90 degree LEFT turns without ever realizing that the handle bars
could not be turned at all to the left. It was only when I was doing
some low-speed weaving between some stopped cars that I found that I
couldn't turn the handle bars to the left.

That's when I realized that turning a motorcycle at typical driving
speeds has very little to do with turning the handle bars.
