Pete,
I had the same problem when I changed the design of mine. I think
the problem lies in the fact that the cans are mounted on a board. Don't
ask me why, but that killed mine.
My original design was a support for the cans that was a thin
(1.5") verticle spine of plywood with 2 plastic arms to hold the cans out
on either side. It took a lot of clamps to hold it, but it worked.
I think the key is to get the wood as far away from the cans as
possible. In fact, make it all out of plastic if possible... say PVC.
