Re: Magnetic monopoles

in a way similar to a charged capacitor. However that's only
a math tool...

Not hardly!
My colleague, Jon Thron, is actively looking for magnetic
monopoles (presumably in cosmic rays) in detectors at the bottom
of the Soudan mine.
Regards,
Jack

Many times a search will find something it totally didn't expect, but
I would see a search for a magnetic monopole to be much like a
search for...

a single-ended drinking straw, or
a flat plate with a top but no bottom.

On the other hand, like faster-than-light particles, and other similar
speculations, the investigation itself is important, if only to negate
a notion.

The search will certainly help firm up the unknown on just *what* magnetism *is*.
