Re: LabVIEW

This is a request for information concerning a course in microcomputer
interfacing.

I am thinking of using LabVIEW (for Win3) and Nat'l Instruments' DAQ
circuit boards in my course (finally leaving the old XTs behind!).

Bob,
I think your making an excellent choice, if the course is designed
to help physics students use computers to control experiments, the nature of
various transducers to gather data and see some of the advantages and things to
watchout for in semiautomated systems and digital data gathering.
In the old days it was necessary to teach students about how computers
work because interfacing had to be done on the machine level, but today many
instruments come with their own drivers, or an IEEE-488 or RS-232 interface,
and there is little need to discuss I/O handeling and what happens on the
register level.
I envy you tha chance to teach such a course, my current institution has
an engineering department that handles that course for us.
