Note that (in TeX speak) \vec{E} is the electric field and E is the
electric field magnitude (or perhaps even the "electric field
strength"). So since typically "g" is being considered as the scalar
magnitude I would think the "strength" of "magnitude" component of the
name would be appropriate.
