Re: Tunnel diodes

Does anyone have a source for tunnel diodes?

Found one! Microsemi Corp. specializes in obsolete semiconductors. They
list 1N2927 thru 1N2934A inclusive, in a TO-18 metal can. Various part
numbers have various peak & valley currents, with 1n2927 being 90uA(pk)
35uA(val), going up to 1n2934A with 98mA(pk), 30mA(val).

Almac electronics and Arrow electronics are reps, look in your
yellow pages for the rep (who might be able to get small quantities
more easily than you would.)

Tunnel diodes aren't used in commercial devices anymore as far as I know.
They were pushed out by high freq transistors, MMIC (monolithic microwave
ICs), and other stuff.

Is this for the SciAm tunnel diode electric motor? Or used as a negative
resistor for deterministic chaos oscillator?

If your application is simply an oscillator or something, you might want
to hit the sci.electronics.design or the rec.radio.amateur.homebrew
newsgroups for advice on where to find schematics which use more modern,
easy to find components.
