I teach a double period AP class. Theoretically I could speed things up by
lecturing for two 50 minute periods. However I found, from both by own
experience as a student and from feedback from my students that there needs to
be "settling" time. They need to go home, do homework, think about and struggle
with the concepts and ideas. A longer period for fewer days would not
accomplish this. It would be like taking a concept that you might discuss in
three lectures and just spending one three hour lecture on it. The learning
that would go on is not equivalent.
