uses and typical applications of RC and RL



Dear Colleagues.

Thanks for your wonderful responses.
We are now focussing on uses and typical applications of RC and RL
circuits. Especially the unusual ones that may be opportunies for future
careers in industry.

Enclosed are some examples and almost 250 keywords or concepts
associated with these circuits.

If you know of any more please share them. Also if you have had any
interesting experiemces with some of the application let us know.

PS I also herad of a RC analogy in biology, somethimh about cell
membranes and the transmission of ions ?? back and forth across the
boundary..???

Essentially all RC circiuts filter of time. Annother application is
setting tyhe frequency response of FM radios(filtering). In the
FM radio business one talks about a 75 micro-secondfilter.

How about the detector of an AM receiver following the diode, and the
de-emphasis network in an FM receiver; loop filters inphase-locked loops;
phase-shift network of an RC oscillator

speaker crossover networks, assuming that the speaker is a resistor.
filter concepts and the general action of the components
made them much more receptive to the analysis later.

oscillators: pierce crystal oscillator..... capacitor is a blocking
capacitor in series with the crystal to protect it from d-c plate
voltage. This capacitor is not always used. Bias is provided in the
cathode circuit by r2 and c2 and in the grid circuit by R and the
capacitance of the crystal holder

AVC (AGC) automatic volume control, automatic gain control:
... voltage consistes of two components, a d-c component and the
intellegence, or audio, component. If this voltage were applied directly
to the AVC- controlled tubes, the gain would vary at an audio rate,
causing severe distortion... so this audi component must be filtered out
and an RC filter is used. Capacitor must have a low reactance compared
to R at the lowest modulating frequency.
